2007 noise...

okay, the only non-photo post i'll have...evah...

drew's top records of 2007:
spoon - gagagagaga
m.i.a. - kala
lcd soundsystem - sound of silver
justice - t
deerhunter - cryptograms

warning: drew has been a contextual critic this year...

why spoon? i was hard pressed to decide on a winner and ultimately, i had to realize that when we look back on the records produced in 2007, spoon's gagalaga will challenge kill the moonlight as their best while m.i.a. lovers will still be spinning 2005's arular as a whole and only stealing singles from kala. spoon's latest feels complete and flows better as a whole versus m.i.a.'s kala, which lulls in the middle. Plus, what the fuck were you thinking letting timberland lay down his misogynistic lyrics on your final track...kinda ruins everything said leading up to the end. same goes for sound of silver (not misogynistic, but good singles v. good record) from lcd. Without a doubt, lcd soundsystem (james murphey) are going down as innovators, but it will be their s/t record that is worshipped and singles referenced on silver. justice...the most original of my picks...not only did this keep me awake while editing photos all year, but this record will be one of the chapters in the book that defines the music of our generation. and deerhunter...i love a good psychedelic record, don't you?

honorable mention:

battles - mirrored
radiohead - in rainbows

battles could never be a top record, because when you're in the mood, they're great, but most of the time it is just annoying. radiohead...i don't think they should ever be put in the running...they are always that good...and the record was free...

singles: (no real order)
spoon - don't you evah
panda bear - i'm not (this is not the right song...)
liars - houseclouds
justice - stress (sorry, short clip)
animal collective - fireworks

records of yesteryear (shit i listened to alot, but wasn't made in 2007):

wolf parade - apologies to the queen mary
underworld - beaucoup fish
clap your hands say yeah - s/t
clipse - kinda my mixx of both records
boards of canada - music has the right to children
junior boys - so this is goodbye

video of the year:
simian mobile disco - hustler (original version)
runner up:
bat for lashes - whats a girl to do

hustler...duh...hott...i wanna be at that get together...oh, wait...voyeurism...i get it...good job. bat for lashes...great video, but a bit too donnie darko to win...

hey, thanks...
